Citizens Property Insurance Corp. has decided to stop covering homeowners who own homes containing Chinese Drywall. Citizens previously attempted to drop homeowners in 2009, but after a public outcry, they reversed their decision. A little more than a year later, they have changed course again and in January they began sending out cancellation notices. For these homeowners, Citizens was the insurer of last resort. Without Citizens, these homeowners will not be able to find coverage elsewhere.
Fox 13 News recently interviewed Attorney David Durkee about Citizens decision. (See interview HERE ) David represents hundreds of homeowners with Chinese Drywall, including one of our current clients. In the interview, he talks about a previous letter-writing campaign that resulted in Citizens reversing their decision to drop homeowners in 2009. He hopes that another grassroots effort will once again convince Citizens to reconsider their decision. We join him in encouraging homeowners to contact Senator Nelson, Senator Rubio, and Governor Scott to file a complaint about this unfair decision. Hopefully our letters will encourage Citizens to do the right thing and they will continue to cover the victims of Chinese Drywall.
